CALLAWAY -- The Bemidji High School boys and girls Nordic skiing teams swept the competition Thursday at the Detroit Lakes Invitational hosted by the Maplelag Resort.
The Lumberjacks claimed both boys and girls team titles by posting 382 and 389 points, respectively.
A pair of Bemidji skiers finished atop the podium individually at the continuous pursuit meet. Nick Youso finished first in the boys race with a time of 24:34.6, and Kinley Prestegard bested the field in the girls race with her time of 28:04.7.
“The performances were absolutely incredible today,” said head coach Mark Walters. “Just a lot of good energy out there today. Really good teamwork. We’re pretty happy with where we’re at right now in the middle part of the season.”
Lumberjacks swept the podium in the girls race with Gwen Youso (28:31.2) and Demi Fisher (29:46.4) taking second and third behind Prestegard. Sarah Pollock (30:45.8) cracked the top 10 with her ninth-place finish.
Finishing behind Youso in the boys top 10 for Bemidji were Logan Jensen (24:58.3) in fourth and Zac Fouquerel-Skoe (25:50.7) in sixth.
Louis Morrissey posted the fastest time for TrekNorth, placing 22nd with his mark of 28:23.
The Lumberjacks will next return to action with their home meet at Buena Vista Ski Area on Saturday, Jan. 19. Skiing is set to begin at 10 a.m.
